Claudius ClaiborneDr. Claudius "C.B." Claiborne

Interim Dean of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business

With over 30 years of experience spanning the public and private sectors, C.B. Claiborne, Interim Dean of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business (JHJ) at Texas Southern University, is a visionary leader focused on innovation, teamwork, and collaborative partnerships.

Claiborne played a pivotal role in founding a new business school and university at California State Channel Islands as part of a six-faculty team. At JHJ, he positioned the school as a change driver, actively engaging community and campus stakeholders to deliver real-world educational impact.

A key member of the SACSCOC QEP Executive Committee, Claiborne contributed significantly to the university’s and school’s accreditation processes. He was instrumental in developing one of the first Executive Online MBA Programs in the nation, specializing in Information Security for IT managers.

Claiborne has led multi-year projects with faculty and community leaders, including the Jones Leadership Fellows’ project, "Peace, Power, Respect, Dignity, Love: the Development of a Black Arts Exhibition," which was recognized by Apple Inc. as an example of educational innovation.

Recognized for his teaching excellence, he received multiple awards for revamping foundational courses in finance, marketing, management, and information systems into an integrated curriculum co-taught by business executives. Claiborne has also chaired the Southwestern Business Administration Teaching Conference and edited special editions of the International Journal of Business Research (IJBR). His research has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and the Journal of Business and Psychology.

As a former director of one of the first Small Business Administration (SBA) units on a college campus, Claiborne managed staff, developed business plans, conducted focus groups, and reported outcomes to the state.

In his early years, Claiborne made history by contributing to the integration of college sports in the South. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Fulbright Scholar, Sasakawa Fellow, and Presidential Scholar.

He holds an MBA, Ph.D., and Doctor of Humane Letters degrees.
