JHJ Business Advisory Council

The Advisory Council of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business (JHJ) at Texas Southern University plays a vital role in shaping the school's strategy and operations. These distinguished members actively support the mission of JHJ to transform students into global leaders. By providing strategic, operational, and financial guidance to the dean, the council helps advance the school's goals. The Business Advisory Council (BAC) amplifies on-campus and off-campus initiatives by contributing their time, expertise, networks, and resources. Under the leadership of John Guess III, chair of the council, the JHJ School continues to excel as a twenty-first-century urban hub for business education, learning, research, and service.

Comprising 33 dedicated members, each appointed to three-year terms, the council includes private and public sector leaders from across the United States and around the globe. Selected for their commitment to management education and business leadership development, these individuals bring diverse perspectives and a shared dedication to the school’s vision, mission, and objectives. Their active participation, understanding, and support drive the success and advancement of JHJ.

Appointment

Members of the Business Advisory Council (BAC) at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business are appointed by the Dean. Candidates for membership are selected from top executive ranks across various sectors, including business, government, media, and not-for-profit organizations. The BAC’s Membership Committee collaborates with the Dean to identify and recommend highly qualified individuals who can actively contribute to the council’s mission and initiatives.

Officers

The officers of the Business Advisory Council (BAC) at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business are appointed by the Dean and include the Chair, Vice Chair, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer. These officers are responsible for fulfilling their roles as outlined in the BAC’s by-laws and the adopted parliamentary authority, ensuring effective governance and support for the council's mission.

Meetings

The Business Advisory Council (BAC) at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business holds three regular meetings annually, with at least one meeting each in the fall and spring semesters. Additional meetings may be scheduled as determined by the BAC or the Executive Board. Members are provided with reasonable notice and have the option to participate via telephone, video conference, or other electronic methods that ensure participant identification with certainty.
